Why is a step locked?

Who can do this

  • CanInteractive-course student
  • Can'tMasterclass studentMasterclass classes have no locked steps.

Who does it instead: If a step stays locked after you’ve finished everything before it, tell your TA (organizer).

Interactive courses unlock in order. Your first unfinished step is the one you’re on, and everything after it is locked.

Within a lesson the order is Learn → Practice → Code Lab → Task, then the lesson’s exam and task exam if it has them. Then the next lesson starts.

What you see

  • This Content is Locked: a practice, code lab or task you haven’t reached. Click Continue Learning to jump to the step you’re on.
  • Back to your progress instead of Complete on a lesson: you can read lessons ahead, but you can only complete the one you’re on.
  • This activity isn’t part of your progress: the step isn’t in your course plan. You’re taken back after 10 seconds, or click Go back to your progress.

How to unlock the next step

  1. Click Continue Learning or open Learning Modules to find the step you’re on.
  2. Finish it:
    • a lesson, by reading to the end and clicking Complete;
    • a practice, by getting every answer right;
    • a code lab, by completing every lab in it;
    • a task, by submitting a file (you don’t have to wait for the grade);
    • an exam or task exam, by passing it.
  3. The next step opens.

Failing an exam retake locks things again

Your latest exam attempt counts. If you pass an exam and then fail a retake, the steps after it lock until you pass again.
